Copthill’s unique countryside setting provides a brilliant outdoor classroom for our pupils’ learning, play and development.
As the school has grown so has our commitment to developing the outdoor facilities under the banner of the Copthill Forest School. Today we’re immensely proud of our Forest School which incorporates tipis, yurts, a Celtic fort, Saxon village, WW1 trench and an Anderson Shelter alongside the farm, woodland areas and riverbank.

Jonathan Teesdale, inspired by his own outdoor childhood here on the farm, saw that Copthill's facilities were perfect for blending the academic rigour of the classroom with practical learning outdoors. The increasing pressure of childhood and the digital world have only made this approach more relevant with clear benefits for health, wellbeing and fitness, leaving a lasting impression that extends into adult life.
Every child at Copthill makes full use of our inspiring outdoor setting - tipis, yurts, shelters and fixed camping areas set in beautiful areas of woodland and riverside across the whole 300 acre farm. Our holistic approach, EEL (Enriched External Learning) and GOAL (Go Outside and Learn), runs through all areas of school life and age groups, encouraging pupils to embrace the outdoors and rise to its challenges. The children build self-esteem and confidence, bringing classroom learning to life in fun, stimulating ways, from science experiments to geography and history fieldwork. This takes place every week throughout the year, whatever the weather!

Over 55 years ago, Copthill School began around a kitchen table at Copthill farm. Thanks to the educational vision of founder Anne Teesdale, today it’s a thriving, future-facing school for 300 children aged 2-11.
Despite the impressive development of the school over many decades, the ethos of a close-knit family community is a constant, allowing children to develop confidence in a safe and nurturing environment. Anne Teesdale’s insistence on respect and caring for others also remains at the heart of the school’s values and culture
Copthill proudly partner with Accent Catering, who believe great tasting, fresh and healthy food is integral to school life. Whilst our pupils might consider fast food as the biggest treat imaginable, we know that it does not make you feel good or live well. Instead, our catering team focus on offering the very freshest, natural fast food that tastes great.
Over 98.3% of our food is prepared from fresh, all our meat is Red Tractor assured, fish is from sustainable stocks only, and the fruit and veg UK sourced where possible. Naturally we also offer halal or kosher options, and cater for pupils with allergies, or who have specific dietary requirements.
