Getting outside is a priority: waterproofs and wellies are standard, with pre-school children outdoors a full day each week (lunch included, in our yurt) and nursery children half a day. Screen time is limited to under 15 minutes daily, replaced by mindful moments and, for younger children, naps when needed.

Getting outdoors is at the heart of Early Years at Copthill. Our nursery and pre-school children spend real time exploring nature, whatever the weather, in a setting that's nurturing, safe and stimulating. Outdoor learning shapes how they discover, play and grow, building curiosity, confidence and social skills from the very first days of their learning journey, and laying strong foundations for a happy start to school life.
Our campus is so much more than just a confined outdoor space. With flower meadows, woods, bee hives, farm animals, a river, yurt and tipis and even a fort, children can explore under the ever-watchful supervision of our dedicated staff. Even lunches are cooked and eaten outdoors as often as possible.
This setting makes sure that every day is a stimulating adventure, and alongside this, each term introduces a new topic, such as pets, friendships, or the environment. Our Early Years children also enjoy the main school's specialist teachers for PE, music and French, supporting their transition to reception.
Parents receive weekly observation reports via Tapestry, capturing highlights and supporting learning at home.
